I’ve been one to try and steer toward natural products for quite a while now. Only recently have I started to make my own with ingredients found in my kitchen. I have had a long time love affair with coconut oil and have about 100 uses for it. It’s been a favorite topic on this blog. My newest coconut oil venture is in homemade deodorant!
I’m a fan of natural deodorants, but let’s be honest; they don’t always get the job done. This recipe is clean, easy and best of all, effective! I spent the morning in the sun, running around after my 2 year old (can you believe he’s 2 already?!??!) and the afternoon doing just about the same. It was a pretty warm, 81 degree day and this deodorant proved to be quite impressive. I just put Simon to bed and still smell as fresh as when we first walked out the door this morning.
It’s really important for us to avoid chemicals whenever possible and store bought deodorants are loaded with them. Try out this simple recipe today!
1/4 cup baking soda
1/4 cup corn starch (or arrowroot)
6 tablespoons coconut oil
10 drops tea tree essential oil (optional) You can also use lavender or whatever scent you prefer. I like tea tree oil for it’s antibacterial and anti fungal properties.
Mix all ingredients together and transfer to a glass jar.
You don’t need to apply much. A little goes a long way! OMG OBSESSED!
