Happy October! It has come to my attention that October is National Vegetarian Month! So for the next 31 days (Monday-Friday) I will be posting about all things veggie and Earth friendly. From books to recipes to kind cosmetics, OMG Obsessed will be all veg this month… staring with Meatless Monday!
Meatless Monday dates all the way back to World War 1 when the government urged citizens to reduce consumption of key staples to aid the war effort. It returned during World War 2 and the effect was overwhelming. Loads of families participated and realized they could eat less meat and not feel worse because of it… they even felt better! In 2003, Meatless Monday made a comeback and has been going strong ever since. Many hospitals, schools, restaurants and worksites participate. Imagine how many animals we are saving! (Not to mention our own health.)
There are endless reasons to go meatless on Mondays, or every other day for that matter. I started cutting out animal products for health reasons: to lower my cholesterol, prevent heart disease which runs in my family and prevent cancer. I continued for many other reasons: my skin changed for the better, I noticed I had more energy, I lost some weight, my mind felt better/clearer. The list goes on. The treatment of animals is very important to me, as well, but I won’t get into that here. This girls’ blog is positive and I want to keep it that way. Feel free to do your own research.
Join me today, and every other Monday, for a meat-free breakfast, lunch and dinner! Stay tuned all month long for delicious recipes and cook book suggestions to help spice up your meals. OMG OBSESSED!
