Our first Guest Blogger: the beautiful and talented Mrs. Tara Giordano-Dean tells us about her OBSESSION! The China Study!
My name is Tara Giordano-Dean. In 2008 breast cancer claimed the life of my beautiful mother, Susan, at the age of 45. It is in the wake of this tragedy that I have educated myself as much as I possibly can and I have come to realize that I have a great responsibility. Not only to myself and my loved ones but to as many human beings as I can possibly get to listen.
I am an actor and that means that I’m fascinated with the human condition. When I think of the effect that the loss of my mother has had on my life it sometimes makes me wonder how the world keeps turning. If more and more people are suffering this kind of debilitating loss… how do we continue? We learn. We change. We grow. We keep moving forward and we try to do better for ourselves and our children.
My research into how to prevent and cure cancer started out because I wanted to help my mother and I wanted to try to prevent this disease from overcoming my sister and me someday.
After years of exploration, I have read a book that has so thoroughly researched all my unanswered questions. These nutritional studies have been in progress since 1983 and they truly go above and beyond. No stone is unturned.
“The China Study” has changed my life and my outlook and I truly believe that every human being, Americans in particular, must read this book. It has empowered me beyond belief.
I have learned why we get cancer, heart disease and diabetes. What we are told by doctors, medical professionals and the government is, well, Bullshit. What we are told is healthy is Bullshit. What we are told are the healthy ranges for blood cholesterol and body mass is Bullshit.
For example, what we are told falls within the “normal” range of blood cholesterol levels is so far out of whack. When you go to the doctor and they say your bcl falls within the “normal” range, you feel safe. What your doctor doesn’t tell you is that it is also “normal” to develop heart disease. Normal is just that, the norm. It is not however, healthy. This is only one example of how deluded our idea of general health has become and how completely misinformed we are.
It is a fact that the food guidelines which are currently in place in the United States are solely there for the purpose of politicians, dairy and meat farmers’ financial gain and have absolutely nothing at all to do with what is healthy.
If I hear another person comment on protein and how you must get enough protein I’ll scream. Nobody has ever suffered in any way from a lack of animal protein. Protein is in everything! It is a completely false statement to say that animal proteins are at all beneficial to the body in any way whatsoever. Are you interested yet? It’s certainly a provocative subject.
This is not a “vegan” or “vegetarian” book. Don’t let that deter you. It’s a book of facts about well being. I am an Italian girl who cooks a lot of Italian food. That means meat and cheese and if you’d told me 5 years ago that I’d be a vegan 6 of the 7 days of the week, I would have said you’re insane. Being closed minded to anything never did anyone any good. Ever.
You must be your own advocate. You must take control of what goes into your body. You must know that you don’t have to get sick no matter what your genes are and that you are the only person who can control your health.
Got Milk? If the answer is yes you should ask yourself another question. Got Cancer?
I urge you to read “The China Study” by T. Colin Campbell, PhD and Thomas M. Campbell II, MD. There is also a documentary called “Forks Over Knives” which features key points from the book. It’s on NetFlix. Watch it! It will enlighten you and enrich your life. I promise.
Well said, Tara! Thank you for a great first ever Guest Blog for OMG OBSESSED. Oh, and Happy Meatless Monday.
